Wear it Two Ways: Totally '80s

It's our favorite time of year: fall fashion season! Not only do we love the crisp, cool air, but we love the surge of new trends that surface in the fall, giving us a new lease on life, even if it pains our wallets a tad. The past couple of seasons, sleeves have been getting bigger and bolder and '80s silhouettes have been creeping into everyday wear, and we're here to announce that's it's officially all in! From large sleeves to chunky geometric earrings, and track suits to acid wash, everything '80s is back except the big bangs.

To show you how versatile the trend can be, we've styled a couple of different '80s-inspired looks below. Oh, and be sure to see the roundup of the rest of our favorite fashion trends for the season here.

MOLLY

I'm all about puffy sleeves! I feel like it really helps to slim down the rest of your silhouette because with a broad tippy-top, you only taper downwards from there. However, these are still a manageable size if you're making your first foray into the statement sleeve game.

I obviously had to bring in my light wash mom jeans for an '80s occasion! These, paired with some '80s inspired pumps are truly a throwback combo.

Finally, the item I cannot get enough of this season: '80s earrings! These big gold earrings are straight out of a different decade. I feel kind of '80s mom-chic, and I've already gotten tons of compliments on them!

I have to admit, I started wearing some of these '80s trends kind of ironically or as a single statement piece, but I've gone fully in now. This little '80s baby was just destined for this trend to come back.

JODI

I am all about metallics this season, and this one shoulder top is the perfect blend of shine and 80's!

What better complement to a super 80's top than faux leather leggings and white studded cowboy boots (western wear also happens to be a huge trend this season!)? I like to bust out these booties any chance I get, which is surprisingly, not as often as you would think. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough?

This top would also look fab with jeans or a sleek pencil skirt! I can't wait to incorporate more 80's pieces into my fall wardrobe!

You can totally ease into the '80s trend with only one piece, you definitely don't have to go all in! What do you think of the trend? Will you be rocking it or totally avoiding it? Let us know in the comments!

Fall Trends 2018

It's one of our favorite times of the year—fall trends time! We're so excited to share our favorite upcoming trends with you, from old favorites like plaid (with a twist), to new obsessions like iridescent statement pieces, check it all out below! You'll see tons of overlap between the categories too, so you can always pack a couple trends into one item!

Trend #1: Fuchsia

Move over Millennial Pink, a new pink is here to take over for fall: Fuchsia! This punchy richer tone is perfect for cold weather and is equal parts edgy and feminine. Whatever you call it: hot pink, fuchsia, magenta, grab some for your wardrobe stat!

Trend #2: Statement Coats

What better way to add pizazz to your fall and winter wardrobe than with a coat you'll wear all the time? From crazy colors of fur to bright colors and loud patterns, we are here for it allllll.

Trend #3: '80s

The '80s are back baby! This trend goes hand in hand with a few others on this list, like loud animal print and iridescent/holographic material, but you can also expect to see other quintessential '80s pieces like big shoulders, neon, funky silhouettes and more!

Trend #4 :Animal Print

We love a good animal print and have for quite some time. However, this year's animal print trend is all about being loud and proud. Look for all sorts of animal prints in bold colors, like red, bright blue, and green this season!

Trend #5: Iridescent/Holographic

Building on the high shine trend of last fall, this trend takes things to the super galactic level. Holographic sequins and iridescent shine will be a great way to spice up your holiday wardrobe this year!

2. Kimono

Trend #6: Colorful Plaid

As if! Clueless-style plaid is all the rage this season. Unusual plaid colors will reign supreme this fall, so much for muted and traditional plaid.

Trend #7: Suiting

Suit up, buttercup! Suits are no longer just workday attire. From fancy dinners to brunch, suits are the structured classic you need in your wardrobe this season. They come in every color, pattern and cut imaginable, so you're sure to find one that's perfect for you.

Black Romper

The calendar may say it's fall, but it's still in the '90s here in the midwest! The season between the seasons can be challenging, but it can also be fun! One trick I like to use is pairing a more traditionally summery outfit with a dark maroon lip. That automatically makes it feel more autumnal.

I picked up this fun romper from a sidewalk sale earlier this summer and it makes me feel equal parts like a retro model and like I should be on a bowling team. The comfort of rompers really can't be beat, so not only does it look chic, but it feels like I'm straight up wearing PJs (shhh, don't tell anyone though)!

I'm also not yet retiring my sandals for the summer, and these tassel slides are the perfect pair to stick around, because the peeptoe is so small, you can't even see your toes, so they feel more like mules.

What are ways you mix summer and fall pieces when its still hot outside? We'd love to know in the comments!

Twinkle Toes

Earlier this week, my work hosted their annual style show fundraiser. It's one of my very favorite events of the year. Since it's a fashion show, I like to be a bit more adventurous with my outfit for the evening. This year, I went with this super glam metallic dress from Rent the Runway.

I was getting major disco vibes from it, so I paired it with silver strappy heels, huge sequin earrings, and a dark lip.

I got SO many compliments on this dress! The best part? It was incredibly comfy! It was almost like wearing pajamas to a swanky event. What could be better? ;)

In the Midwest, we know all too well that just because it's fall, doesn't mean that it immediately feels like fall. That doesn't mean you can't incorporate fall colors in with your summer basics! Check out Molly's Romping in Burgundy post here

Every year around this time, I feel a strong pull toward visiting an apple orchard. What better place to photograph your fall outfits? ;) Check out Jodi's post on the Okaw Valley Orchard here

Long Nine Junction

I'm going to let you in on Springfield's best secret today - Long Nine Junction! This little shop is situated right in the heart of downtown Springfield, across from the Old State Capitol, and serves up THE most delicious food you will get anywhere, hands down. Currently, they are only open for lunch, but it's well worth the lunchtime jaunt to get your hands on this deliciousness.

Their menu changes seasonally, but having sampled all of the seasonal menus at this point, I can say without a doubt that they are all fantastic! They also source all of their ingredients from organic, local farms.

As you enter, you can peruse the menu on the wall and order at the counter when you're ready (which sometimes takes longer than you anticipated because it all sounds so good!).

My husband and I went on a Saturday a few weeks back. He ordered the Cubano, which is ham, bacon, pulled pork, swiss cheese, honey grain whole grain mustard on toasted focaccia.

We got the chicken pozole rojo soup with sweet corn and squash to share and I went for the french dip sandwich and a side of fresh greens with citronette dressing. They seriously have the best side salads here! The dressing is some of the best I've ever tasted - cool, crisp, and refreshing.

They also offer daily specials that are posted on their Facebook page. The menu is set up in three main segments, all named after legislative terms to tie into the new and old capitols that are situated right around the restaurant. The "Recess/meals in a bowl" section is also great if you want something heartier, like mac and cheese with BBQ apple butter pork...YUM! These meals also come with their homemade rolls which are, hands down, the best bread I've ever tasted in my LIFE! If you're still hungry, you can grab one of their homemade desserts on your way out.

So, what are you waiting for?? Get down to Long Nine Junction and experience some of the best food Central Illinois has to offer! I'll see you there!

Denim Midi Dress

I have to admit I go in cycles with shopping at Target. I either walk through quickly and find nothing to even try on, or I spend a literal half day trying on everything I see and loving it all equally. This season, I'm loving it all! The new Wild Fable line is ah-maz-ing, and everything from Who What Wear is killing it, this dress included!

This denim dress is equal parts fancy and casual, between the midi cut and buttons, and raw edge sleeves and denim material. I wore it to work last week and got tons of questions about where it was from, and everyone was surprised it was from Target at such a reasonable price point.

I paired the dress with some neutral slides and my new favorite pair of earrings that look like lion door knockers! Hoop earrings are everywhere now, but in any form but a traditional hoop: from lucite hoops to dropped hoops like these, there's something fun and unique for any style.

Is there anything you're loving from Target recently? Let me know in the comments!
