DIY Letterman Sweatshirt

Recently, I bought a super cute letterman sweater at J.Crew that had "LOL" spelled out in old fashioned letterman letters. I was obsessed with it, and then I started to see a few quirky and funny letterman sweatshirts on the interwebs and found myself Googling them to see where I could purchase one. Then it hit me, duh, I can make one myself! I'm all about easy and quick DIYs, so this is right up my alley!

To make your own cheeky sweatshirt, you need iron on "letterman" letters, an iron, a pair of scissors (if you want to cut the neckline and/or hem like I did), and a sweatshirt of your choice! Depending on whether or not you buy your sweatshirt, or use one you already have, this project runs from a $3 - $25.

1. Arrange your letters in the correct spot on your sweatshirt. You will want to put the sweatshirt on and stick them on while it is on your body. This way you can see the movement and the placement. Move them around until they are in the correct position.

2. Once you have the letters where you want them, place a thin towel over the letters and then iron them on for 30 seconds. The iron should be on the cotton setting. Make sure to read the instructions on the back of the letters as well!

3. Turn the sweatshirt inside out and iron the letters on the reverse side for 30 seconds.

4. If you'd like to switch things up, you can cut the neckline and/or the hem to give the sweatshirt a more modern and distressed look. I cut the hem off of both sweatshirts and gave the black top a slouchy neckline so it hangs off of one shoulder.

5. Pull the cut neckline or hem to roll the fabric for a more lived in look.

Voila! Your very own funny and quirky sweatshirt that can be dressed up or down! If you make your own, send up a picture so we can see!
