Wear it Two Ways: Velvet Jacket

We've mentioned more than a handful of times how gaga we are for velvet. One of our very favorite applications of our go-to texture is in jacket form. From a polished work look, to a chic party vibe, or an ensemble for heading to happy hour, velvet jackets and blazers can be incredibly versatile. To get your velvet styling ideas going, check out the looks we've styled below!

First, let me say that one of my favorite things as of late is teaching my almost-two-year old nephew fashion terms like "velvet" and "fishnet." Hearing him yell "Molly's hat is BEL-vet!" seriously makes this aunt's heart swell with pride. I'd say he'd be pretty thrilled about this bel-vet look I styled featuring a velvet military jacket from the Who What Wear collection at Target.

While I love layering this jacket over button down tops and blouses for a polished look, with the top collar folded down like a blazer, I recently tried it buttoned up as a standalone top and I'm loving it. Blazer dresses are popping up everywhere, so I figured I'd take a style note and try it!

To go all in, I paired it with velvet flares. I'm loving matching sets that are popping up everywhere for spring, so I just made my own. Lace up platform booties finish off the disco military vibe. I also pulled a sparkly bobby pin out of my grandma's vintage collection and swiped on a bright red lip for a classic finish.

Long live bel-vet on bel-vet!

I feel like most of the items I have purchased lately have been velvet in nature. So, when I saw that the red velvet tuxedo blazer I had been eyeing at Zara was finally on sale, I had to snatch it up!

I'm a huge fan of wearing a blazer for work, especially on casual Fridays with jeans, but I've also been having fun creating more formal looks as of late. I love the idea of wearing pants to a fancy shindig, so I took it one step further and added my new blazer on top of a jumpsuit! I have to say, I am loving the result.

I also added a belt to make sure that my waist wasn't lost in the velvety greatness of my blazer. I think I will definitely be recreating this look for a few upcoming formal occasions I have on the calendar!
