Pilgrim's Punch

For Thanksgiving the past couple of years, my husband and I have been tasked with bringing a fun cocktail to share (and rolls since he's a wonderful baker!). This recipe we used last year was so simple and so good, I just have to recommend it to anyone looking to make up a fun beverage for Thanksgiving. You could easily make it sans vodka for the whole family and add in a splash of the hard stuff to individual servings.

This punch gets its cozy harvest flavors from apple cider, cinnamon and cloves, and fruit slices add a nice fresh interactive element. It was a total crowd-pleaser that left nearly everyone coming back for more (thank goodness I went for a triple batch!)

If you decide to make this for your get-together, be sure to let us know how it goes over!

Now, for the recipe (based on this one):

1 1/4 cups vodka (love J. Rieger vodka)
1 3/4 cups cloudy apple cider
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
5 cinnamon sticks
10 whole cloves
1 lemon sliced in wheels
1 orange sliced in wheels

Optional: splash of club soda or ginger ale

Mix the liquids and spices to combine and chill overnight if possible, or at least an hour. Before serving, remove cloves and cinnamon sticks and add fresh fruit slices. Serve over ice in a punch bowl or poured into individual servings. You can top each serving with a splash of club soda or ginger ale if you want to temper the booze a bit ;)

Serves 6-8

Pitcher (vintage and similar here)
Goblets (similar)
