Navy Polka Dots

There's nothing better about summer than wearing easy, breezy summer dresses. This off the shoulder number definitely fits the bill.

The light navy and blue polka dots and off the shoulder flutter sleeves are my favorite parts of the dress. The long slit on the front doesn't hurt either!

Paired with a bold red lip and neutral accessories, I feel like I just stepped out of a 1950's romantic movie!

Wear it Two Ways: Poolside Style

Have we mentioned how hot it is outside? Like 7 inches from the midday sun hot. What better way is there to stay cool than hitting up a pool? And, while you're getting cool, you might as well look cool! For today's Wear it Two Ways, we're styling out favorite poolside items, from cover ups to swimwear, for some inspiration for your feel cool/look cool combo. Though, we would argue there's no better pool accessory than confidence. And sunscreen. Confidence and sunscreen. And maybe a swan floatie.

Despite the fact that my skintone might be only one shade darker than printer paper, I have been getting out into the sun this summer (always slathered in sunscreen of course)!

I fell in love with this cover up the second I saw it at Donna's Dress Shop. I wanted a new cover up to take on our vacation to Destin, and this one was a home run with its tassels, pom poms and mix of neon and pastel colors. I also love that it has longer sleeves, so if you're getting too much sun, you can easily throw it on and protect your shoulders.

It just so happened that Donna's also had a black tassel sunhat that's tag said it was able to be flattened and crunched while packing, and had sun protection comparable to 20 SPF, so I was doubly sold. Triply sold if you count the tassels. And I will because look at them.

Before my Destin trip, I ordered nearly a dozen swimsuits from ASOS to try on (they have free returns, so I love buying tons of options and returning what doesn't work). I ended up keeping three and this one might just be my favorite. The fun ruffle and pastel color are so nice and summery and the fit is great.

I've paired the top with these cheeky bottoms and high waisted bottoms alike and they both work well. Ah, I love versatility. Now back to lounging.

I've really been into caftans lately. They are slowly, but surely taking over my wardrobe. So, when I saw this amazing blue and white caftan, I knew I had to have it. Plus, it has pom poms so how could I say no?

To me, a caftan is the perfect swimsuit cover up because it's effortlessly chic and glamorous, while being incredibly simple to wear. This one is light and airy too, which makes it perfect for staying cool in the heat.

I've also been digging high waisted bottoms mixed and matched with different tops this season. You already know how much we love gingham, so when I saw these gingham high waisted bottoms, I snatched them up! They go perfectly with my caftan too. What's your go-to poolside/beach/laying out in the backyard get up?

Summer Cocktails to Beat the Heat!

Temperatures are hot, hot hot! That means light, fresh meals and drinks to accompany them. We've rounded up the best summertime cocktails we've made on the blog that we can't wait for you to try. Start stocking up on ingredients now, and you'll be all ready for sipping this weekend!

Warm weather is made for fun, fancy cocktails that are perfect for sipping on the patio. This grapefruit fizz, featuring the rosemary tincture, is a perfect combination of bright and earthy; and I love that it's not too sweet.

This cocktail calls for dark rum (that's the dark part) and ginger beer (that's the stormy part). Add a splash of lime and plenty of ice and you're ready to kick back and pretend you're on an island in the Caribbean.

On weekend afternoons, the heat can really start to slow you down. And this frappe will speed you back up! The icy cold caffeine boost will help get you right back on track. And the downright deliciousness will distract you from the sidewalk melting outside.

A classic aperitif, and one that my husband and I have been loving this summer is the Aperol Spritz. It’s slightly sweet, with a bitter citrusy flavor, and is perfect for sipping before dinner, especially in super hot weather. And, isn't it beautiful?

The cousin of the Spritz, the Negroni, is just as lovely. This classic cocktail using gin, Campari and vermouth is perfect for daytime sipping before a light summery dinner.

This incredible sangria is perfect for the summer. What makes it Irish? Jameson of course! You'll be the hit of any party with a batch of this!

What's your favorite summertime beverage to keep your spirits high through the heat? Let us know in the comments!

All About that Lace

For these super hot days of summer, I'm just loving flowy tops that are nice and breathable. Loose-fitting tops definitely don't have to mean casual though! I love this raw edge lace top I snagged last summer (it's now out of stock, but I've linked some others at the end of the post!) that feels summery and elegant all at the same time.

I wore this ensemble out to check out Somerset Ridge Winery, which was well worth a drive a bit out of Kansas City. Their wine was delicious, and the grounds to sit and hang out on are gorgeous. While I think it's fun to dress up a bit for wine tastings and happy hours, I don't want to be too overdressed if everyone else is in jeans and a sundress, so this ensemble was the perfect happy medium.

Lately I cannot get enough of my platform espadrille mules for a summery look that's equal parts casual and fancy, and they fit the bill perfectly. Cropped flares are perfect for when you don't want sunburned knees, but you're trying to make sure your ankles get a nice breeze.

How are you dressing to stay sane in these crazy hot temps?!

SheIn Review

If you've been following us for any period of time, you may have noticed us wearing lots of SheIn! We've gotten some questions about what we think of their pieces, so we thought it would be good to fill you in on the style, quality, and price you can expect from SheIn because we know it's sometimes tricky to order online, especially when you aren't sure what you're dealing with. We admit, we were pretty hesitant to place orders at first, but overall, we've been pretty pleased with our purchases!

For us, it's an ideal place to try out crazy, trendy, and statement trends without breaking the bank. We've heard complaints about the quality before, but for what we're paying, we've been very impressed. Some of the button down style shirts require loooots of ironing, and aren't the softest, but, on the other hand, some of the silky blouses we've gotten are among the most comfortable and wrinkle-free in our closets!

With the exception of a few items we've received that didn't fit quite right, everything has fit pretty much true to size. However, the one-size-fits-all items have been all over the board on sizing, from around an XS to L size, so we wouldn't recommend that for any super form-fitting items.

We were also relieved that the shipping isn't insanely long either! We've heard horror stories, but in our experience (and we've each placed more than a couple of orders), it takes anywhere from one to two weeks to arrive. Plus, they are always running sales and promotions, on top of the crazy low prices to boot! The returns also don't take a long time to process, but they don't offer free return shipping.

We've rounded up some of our past posts featuring our favorite pieces from SheIn. In all of these the size and fit are spot on and look just like they do on the website. We've linked to each post below the photos so you can see more shots of the items as well. Please feel free to comment with any specific questions you may have, and we'd be happy to answer honestly!
