I'm obsessed with military jackets. I actually have been ever since I can remember, so I am extremely happy that they are having a moment right now. The more ornate they are, the more I love them! I picked this particular one because it reminded me of one that George Washington would wear. Who would think you could get fashion inspiration for a former president?
I've also been having a lot of fun experimenting with layering in the colder temps. To me, layering is a great way to mix and match pieces you already own to come up with a whole new look. In this case, I've gone above and beyond with "leather" leggings (these are amazing, by the way, HIGHLY recommend!), over the knee boots, a maxi shirt dress and the aforementioned military jacket.
The best thing about layering is that you can stay warm while still looking chic, as long as you do it right of course. ;) There's a very fine line between Olsen twin boho chic and hot mess express. The way I strike a balance is by finding a theme and balancing out proportions. For example, if there is a lot of bulk of top with a long cardigan, I balance it by keeping the bottom minimal and adding height. So, I would wear slim leggings or pants and a shoes with a heel.
My hair can also be a bit much, volume-wise, so I pulled it back with a half-up top knot. This also helps to keep my hair out of my face, which is a pet peeve of mine. I kept my accessories minimal and neutral, so that they blend in with the outfit as a whole.
I'm excited to experiment more with layering this winter! What is your go-to formula for layers?
