Wear it Two Ways: Flares

70s influences are all the rage this season, and flares are no exception to this trend. Last week, we compiled our favorite trends this fall with flares featured, and now we'll show you a couple of different ways to style them! Dark, sleek and so long you have to wear heels are the style we're especially loving, but they're creeping into everything from crops to light wash jeans, too.

MOLLY

I took the 70s theme and ran with it. Flares can also be super chic and sophisticated (see Jodi's styling below), but as usual, I like to experiment with pushing an outfit to the limits of almost being costume-y. Almost—that's the key. Subtle hints of modern pieces grouped together can really hint at retro ensembles without looking like you came out of a department store ad from 1975.

I paired my flares with a fun fringe vest, a fringe clutch, aviators, and leather bracelets for perfectly groovy look. Hair in flowy waves pulled back on the sides reiterates the boho vibe. The fitted crop top helps modernize the look for an everyday look.

I'd been looking for the perfect pair of flares since early summer and I couldn't be happier with the these I snagged at Forever 21 for less than $30! I was even pleasantly surprised that the advertised "mid-rise" hit pretty high, which is just what I was looking for. Affordable and stylish? Far out!

As Molly mentioned, I took the chic approach for my flares. This is an outfit you could easily wear to work for a business casual Friday. I kept things simple and balanced so as not to overwhelm my body. Flares can come off as too frumpy if you aren't careful, which is why wearing heels or wedges is the way to go.

I picked up this white tunic during the Nordstrom Annual Sale and I will definitely be wearing it all the time this fall and winter. It goes with everything! I kept the rest of my accessories simple, with clean white pumps, gold jewelry and a studded hobo bag to punch up the 70s vibe.

My flares are actually "trouser" flares from The Limited, which is perfect for wearing to work. These jeans could even take you from work to happy hour and straight into the weekend. Pretty groovy, huh?

  1. SOOO glad there are so many great flares in stores right now. I wear some version of wide leg/flare leg jeans almost all the time -- they're just what work best for my shape. Sometimes you really have to scour to find something other than a skinny jean, so I might just have to stock up!

    1. We agree! It's nice to have options again. They are everywhere so you won't have trouble stocking up either. :)
