Gypsy Illusion

I love summer looks that transition seamlessly from breezy daytime to dramatic nighttime looks. It seems that schedules are much more fluid in the summer: when you eat, when you sleep, when you decide to have a cocktail in the afternoon, or ice cream as a meal... things like that. It's great to be able to be dressed for whatever may come your way. So, a gypsy illusion skirt could really not be more appropriate for living your life like a transient summertime gypsy.

This weekend, my husband and I took an impromptu trip 45 minutes away to grab some tapas mid-afternoon, and this outfit was a perfect pick that said "lazy afternoon" and "striking evening" all in one. The colorful top and fun teal seashell necklace are balanced out by the drama of the black illusion skirt. The lace detail at the bottom really gives the ensemble both a bohemian and dressy touch.

These dreamy wood and black wedges from Steve Madden help mirror the nature element from the necklace and carry some visual weight to balance out all the color on top. Also, they're just plain amazing, so they were an obvious pick.

The black fringe clutch added an extra touch of whimsy. You can never have too much whimsy. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Outfit Details: Top: Aerie, Skirt: Target (similar), Shoes: Steve Madden (similar), Necklace: Vintage, Sunglasses: Nasty Gal, Fringe Clutch: H&M, Earrings: Wal-Mart

  1. I love the skirt. I think I might have to go to Target and buy one. Confessions of an Ex-Ballerina

    1. I know, it's so fun and flowy! I did buy it last year, but it looks like they've got a lot of illusion maxi skirts in all different colors in stores now.
